Diamond Mine Back in Production
Rio Tinto has recommenced production at its Argyle Diamond mine in the Kimberley.
Production was put on hold three months ago due to a flood of diamonds on the market and subsequent low prices.
A $9 million upgrade of the mine’s processing plant was completed during the shutdown.
Rio Tinto’s Maryanne Kelly says Argyle is now preparing for the diamond price to bounce back.
“Just feeding some of our lower grade at the moment,” she said.
“When the price returns mid to late next year, we’ll be able to feed our better grade and get a better price for our diamonds.”
