Ten Million Dollar Diamond Price
A 72 carat diamond estimated to be worth ten million diamonds is set to be auctioned off in the up and coming Asian diamond sales in April, according to Auction house Sotheby’s. This D –Color (finest white) will be the most expensive diamond auctioned off and will be the third largest stone ever auctioned on the planet.
“In terms of quality it can’t get any better,” said Quek Chin Yeow, Sotheby’s deputy Asia chairman and its head of jewellery.
“Anything above 50 carats is a major stone … To find a rough of that size and quality and to be able to cut it into a perfect stone is really not an easy thing to,” he told Reuters.
Quek said more top gems were now finding their way into Asian auction rooms from traditional gem hubs such as Geneva.
“We are known to have very strong Asian buying, particularly for these great, great stones,” Quek said.
“A lot of Asians are very discerning so they always want the best … and they don’t like to compromise on that.”
Christie’s will also be auctioning off another diamond in May said to be the largest at 101 carats, the size of a squash ball.
Last year, the 84 carat diamond sold for a record diamond price, $16.2 million, just short of the world record for the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction. The price of that diamond was $16.5 million in 1995, the 100 carat “Star of the Season”
The price of diamonds can indeed soar to record heights!
