99 Carat Petra Diamond Sold for 1.3 Million Dollars
20 December 2007
What price diamonds now when Petra Diamonds has just sold a 99.43 carat diamond for $1,305.009 dollars. The diamond, recently found at the Sedibeng diamond mine in South Africa fetched over 13,124 dollars per carat.
Previously the company sold a 74.4 carat diamond in September this year for $1,012,636 dollars or $13,556 per carat. At the time of the sale, the 74.7-carat stone, produced from the Koffiefontein mine in South Africa, was the company’s first diamond that had ever sold for more than US$1 million.
Commenting on the most recent sale, Petra Chairman Adonis Pouroulis says, “To sell the most valuable diamond ever in Petra’s history is a very fitting end to what has been a remarkable year for the group. Given all the very positive developments of 2007, and indeed the last few weeks with the acquisition of the Cullinan diamond mine, I look forward to our prospects for 2008 with great confidence.”
