Price of a 6.5 Diamond
The Guizzetti-Collet auction house recently announced the price of a 6.5 carat diamond sold for triple its estimated value.
The 6.5-carat blue diamond went for 2.43 million euros (3.56 million dollars), more than three times its estimated value at auction in France on Saturday, the auction house said in a statement.
The winning bid was placed by an unknown international company who specializes in buying and selling precious gemstones. The original appraisal for the stone has been set at between 500,000 and 700,000 euros.
The Guizzetti-Collet auction house said, in a statement that the “blue intense homogeneous”-coloured diamond, with “extraordinary” coloration, came from a ring “bought in 1962 by the owners of a champagne house, on the occasion of promoting a special vintage.”
There were also 15 other bidders based in Hong Kong, Italy, Switzerland and the United States vying for the precious stone via telephone and in the auction house.
Other recent auction bids have shown a big interest in larger diamonds and it looks set for a healthy year for diamonds in 2008. This demonstrates a keen interest in the larger diamonds and a healthy prospect for the price of diamonds in the future.
