Black Diamonds

Black DiamondsBlack diamonds have, in fact, been around for some time. However they have been, until recently, not very popular and considered unattractive.

Black diamonds, also known as carbonado, are found in Brazil among other places. They are more commonly used in diamond drills and their texture can vary from porous to compact. and can be polished up very nicely in fact. Black diamonds are sometimes featured in combination with the standard white diamonds and in men�s diamond rings and here they can look quite attractive.

Black and white diamond jewellery first became fashionable in the late 1990’s Demand for natural black diamonds then exceed supply. Recently however, black diamonds have began to become popular again and, in the right creative setting, can also be very fashionable and attractive.

Currently the prices of black diamonds are very favorable but as the popularity increases one can expect an increase in the price also.

You do have to be very careful with black diamonds when buying them. They should be valued properly by an independent appraisers and a certificate of authenticity issued.

The color in black diamonds can be the result of a polycrystaline structure and or the presence of inclusions, and extensive cracking. It so it should be noted on the certificate.

Black diamonds even have the potential of a good future investment so it might even be worth while getting some good quality loose ones and keeping them.
